Ecosystem Marketplace (EM) runs the world’s first and only independent international voluntary and compliance carbon credits trade reporting and knowledge-sharing mechanism.
EM has been a long-trusted provider of objective, credible information for decision-making since its launch in 2005 as an initiative of the non-profit Forest Trends. Since then, EM data, analysis, and insights on prices, regulation, and science, have been driving transparency in otherwise opaque environmental markets and climate finance issues.
EM’s unparalleled data system is a product of rigorous research and unifies carbon market data from the over the counter (OTC) and platform / exchange-traded markets. Tens of thousands of current, historical, and future transactions of carbon credits are regularly reported confidentially by a growing international network of hundreds of EM Respondents, including companies, non-profits, governments. As of 31 August 2021, 172 project developers, investors, and intermediaries with projects located in 80 countries, and office bases in nearly 40 countries have reported their market insights and trade data via EM’s new online reporting platform (a 13% increase from 152 respondents in 2020), covering the calendar year 2020 and 2021 year to date.
Now in its 16th year, EM is continually upgrading the EM Global Carbon Hub to meet growing interests in reliable, timely, and objective data and insights on carbon credit transactions prices and volumes. The Hub will provide the tools and resources necessary to enhance data collection to ensure EM continues to deliver the highest-quality and most up-to-date data and analytics available.

Public Version 1.1 of the EM Data Dashboard provides valuable carbon credit data, analysis, and information with additional capabilities from the previous version, including multi-variable analysis and more in-depth updates available for EM Respondents, supporters, and partners at their desired frequency (daily, weekly, monthly, or quarterly). Other new features include:
• Voluntary Carbon Credit Trades: Prices, volumes and other market metrics by carbon and a subset of additional attributes (e.g., transaction date, standard, project category and location) within the EM Dataset that includes also more granular details on standards/registries, project types, co-benefits, Sustainable Development Goals, contract structure (e.g., spot vs forward), primary/secondary market, among others).
• Voluntary Carbon Credit Buyers: Data and insights about companies, governments, and others purchasing carbon credits to meet their voluntary climate commitments (e.g., net zero, carbon neutrality, etc).
• Carbon Credit Issuances & Retirements: Monthly updated issuances and retirements, as collected from both independent and compliance carbon credit standards’ registries - American Carbon Registry (ACR), Architecture for REDD+ Transactions (ART TREES), Climate Action Reserve (CAR), California Air Resources Board (CARB), Clean Development Mechanism (CDM, for credits issued after 2016), City Forest Credits, Climate Forward, Coalition for Rainforest Nations, EcoRegistry, Global Carbon Council, Gold Standard, Plan Vivo, ProClima, and Verified Carbon Standard (VCS).
• CORSIA-eligible Carbon Credits: Soon to be launched monthly updated prices and volumes of CORSIA-eligible credits.
• EM Respondents: Directory of survey respondents, searchable by location and other characteristics.
• Relevant Reports & Resources: Most recent State of the Voluntary Carbon Markets Reports, factsheets, guidance materials, infographics, etc.
172 project developers, investors, and intermediaries based in nearly 40 countries with projects in 80 countries, have confidentially reported their market insights and trade data via EM’s new online reporting platform (as of 31 August 2021 (a 13% increase from 152 respondents in 2020), covering the calendar year 2020 and 2021 year to date).
As EM continues to adjust to serve an increasingly liquid market, EM Respondents now have the option to report more frequently than once per year. While roughly half of respondents will continue to respond annually, one-third will be reporting on a quarterly basis, with the remainder providing insights monthly, weekly, or even as transactions occur.
See the “Market Participant Directories” menu item for a list of current EM Respondents.
Ecosystem Marketplace’s work would not be possible without the generous financial and in-kind support, including that of our Visionary Partners and Strategic Supporters.
